Abstract

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a Primary diagnostic modality, providing high-resolution, multiplane images without ionizing radiation. While its technological benefits are widely acknowledged, patient satisfaction—shaped by comfort, safety awareness, and communication—is an essential component of healthcare quality. Aim: To evaluate patient satisfaction before, during, and after MRI examinations, assess patient needs, and determine awareness regarding MRI safety. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional questionnaire-based survey was conducted among 50 patients undergoing MRI at the Radiology Department, Government Medical College, Rajouri, Jammu& Kashmir. The questionnaire covered demographic details, informed consent, safety screening, communication quality, comfort, and anxiety management. Descriptive statistics were applied to analyse data. Results: Forty percent of patients filled a consent form (mostly contrast studies), while 60% did not (non-contrast). All participants (100%) confirmed that a medical history was obtained before scanning. Ninety percent were informed about the procedure and duration beforehand. Most respondents (92%) felt comfortable during scanning, although 16% required sedatives for claustrophobia, anxiety, or respiratory issues. Technologist behavior was rated positively by 80% of patients. Overall satisfaction was high, with 92% willing to recommend the facility. Conclusion: Patient satisfaction in MRI is strongly influenced by effective communication, adherence to safety protocols, and supportive staff interactions. Addressing patient anxiety, providing clear procedural information, and maintaining a comfortable environment can further enhance experiences.
